A locum tenens Pediatrician opportunity is available in a community-based hospital setting in Vermont. This is a call-only position focused on inpatient pediatric coverage, newborn care, and emergency consults. The role is ideal for physicians comfortable with independent decision-making, neonatal resuscitation, and providing support across multiple pediatric care areas.

The facility averages over 200 deliveries annually and requires pediatric coverage for newborn care, high-risk deliveries, and inpatient consults as needed. Providers can expect a collaborative environment with nursing and emergency department staff, along with manageable call volumes.

Malpractice Covered Job Responsibilities
- Provide routine and urgent newborn care in the nursery
- Attend high-risk deliveries and perform neonatal resuscitation when necessary
- Manage common newborn conditions such as jaundice, feeding difficulties, and hypoglycemia
- Stabilize neonates requiring transfer to higher levels of care (NICU)
- Offer pediatric consults in the Emergency Department
- Manage inpatient pediatric cases for patients under 18
- Respond to pager calls from staff and patients within a 30-minute callback window
- Address postpartum and breastfeeding-related concerns
- Handle pediatric symptom calls including fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and rash
- Participate in pediatric emergency response and codes
Requirements:
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics
- Active Vermont medical license required
- Current certifications in NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) and PALS preferred
- Experience in inpatient pediatrics and newborn care
- Comfort with independent call coverage in a rural setting
Working Hours
- Primary coverage: Thursdays from 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM
- Weekend call: 1 in 4 weekends, beginning Thursday at 5:00 PM and potentially extending through Monday at 8:00 AM
- Call-only position (no clinic or office hours)
- Average overnight call volume ranges from 0 to 5 calls
