Schedule: Monday Friday 8:00 AM 5:00 PM No Call

Position Overview

A leading pediatric medical center in Oakland, CA is seeking a Pediatric Optometrist (OD) for a full-time locum tenens assignment beginning August 2026. This opportunity offers the chance to work alongside a highly specialized pediatric ophthalmology team caring for complex pediatric populations in an outpatient hospital setting.

The ideal provider will have strong pediatric optometry experience, including strabismus/binocular vision exams and working with children with developmental or neurological conditions.

Practice Details
  • Outpatient hospital-based pediatric practice
  • patients per day
  • 30-minute appointment slots
  • Support staff includes:
    • Optometry techs
    • Ophthalmologists
    • Additional optometrists
  • Epic EMR
  • Full diagnostic imaging support onsite
Patient Population
  • Primarily pediatric patients
  • Some adult patients with:
    • Developmental delays
    • Double vision
    • Neurological or cognitive conditions
  • Frequent co-management with pediatric specialties including neurology and craniofacial teams
  • High exposure to complex pediatric and special needs populations
Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive pediatric eye exams
  • Strabismus and binocular vision evaluations
  • Pediatric contact lens fittings (preferred)
  • Management of medically complex pediatric eye conditions
  • Workups and patient care coordination
Requirements
  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree
  • Active California Optometry License
  • BLS Certification
  • Pediatric optometry residency highly preferred
  • Minimum qualifications:
    • Pediatric residency OR
    • 3+ years of pediatric optometry experience in a medical center setting
  • Experience with complex pediatric populations required
