Locums - Mason City, Iowa Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner Opportunity
Clinical Role
Join an established cardiothoracic surgery team at a Level II trauma facility providing inpatient, clinic, and call coverage. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner seeking an ongoing locums assignment with a collaborative surgical team.
Assignment Dates
- September 7 - 11 8a-5p
September 28 - October 2 8a-5p
October 5 - 11 8a-5p and night call, 24-hour call for the 10th and 11th ending at 0800 on the 12th
November 23 - 28, 8a-5p and night call, 24-hour call on the 26th and 28th, ending at 0700 on the 29th
December 21 - 31, 8a-5p and night call, 24-hour call on the 26th and 27th
Ongoing opens needing coverage: Yes
- Mon-Fri = 8a-5p + weeknight call (all nights)
- Sat-Sun = 24 Hour On Call
Position Highlights

- Approximately 125 CABG cases annually, with few emergent cases
Schedule & Coverage
- Monday - Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM plus weeknight call
- Saturday & Sunday: 24-hour call coverage
- Ongoing dates available throughout the year
Clinical Details & Responsibilities
Setting: Inpatient and outpatient clinic
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide comprehensive cardiothoracic surgery patient care
- Perform preoperative and postoperative evaluations
- Assist with inpatient management of cardiothoracic surgery patients
- Participate in clinic coverage
- Provide after-hours and weekend call coverage
- Collaborate closely with the cardiothoracic surgery team
Case Mix:
- Cardiothoracic surgery
- Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) patients
- Endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH)
Support & Technology
- Level II trauma center
- Collaborative cardiothoracic surgery team
- Established cardiovascular surgery program
Requirements
- Board Certified Nurse Practitioner - Required
- Active Iowa license - Required
- ACLS certification - Required
- BLS certification - Required
- Minimum of 2 years of Cardiothoracic Surgery experience - Required
- Cardiothoracic surgery experience - Required
- Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH) experience - Required
- Must be able to cover at least some of the listed assignment dates - Required
