Clinical Role

Join a well-established rural surgery program providing clinic, surgical, and call coverage at a Level IV trauma center. This is an excellent ongoing locums opportunity for a General Surgeon seeking a balanced practice with scheduled surgeries, clinic responsibilities, and manageable call volume in a collaborative environment.

Assignment Dates

• Orientation and onboarding required the day before the first scheduled shift
• July 1 (7:00 AM) - July 5 (7:00 AM) (Urgent coverage needed)
• August 26 (7:00 AM) - September 7 (7:00 AM)
• September 24 (7:00 AM) - October 5 (7:00 AM)
• October 19 (7:00 AM) - October 28 (7:00 AM)
• November 9 (7:00 AM) - November 16 (7:00 AM)
• November 24 (7:00 AM) - December 1 (7:00 AM)
• December 17 (7:00 AM) - December 29 (7:00 AM)

Position Highlights

• Approximately 10 days of call coverage per assignment
• Low inpatient census with manageable call volume
• Independent practice with no APP supervision responsibilities

Schedule & Coverage

• Monday: Clinic, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
• Tuesday: Surgery followed by clinic as surgical schedule permits
• Wednesday: Clinic, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
• Thursday: Surgery followed by clinic as surgical schedule permits
• Friday: Clinic, 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM
• 24/7 call coverage during assignment
• Must be available to respond within 20 minutes
• Urgent need for July coverage

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

Setting: Hospital and outpatient clinic

Facility Information:

• Level IV Trauma Center
• 25-bed hospital
• Average daily census: 15 patients
• Scheduled surgeries Monday through Friday
• Emergent surgeries available 24/7

Responsibilities Include:

• Perform scheduled and emergent general surgery procedures
• Provide clinic evaluations and follow-up care
• Respond to phone consultations
• Admit and round on general surgery patients
• Participate in 24/7 call coverage during assignment
• Collaborate with anesthesia and hospital staff

Call Volume:

• Average of 0-5 general surgery patients per 24-hour call period

Required Procedures:

• Abdominal surgery
• Endoscopy
• Liver procedures
• Stomach surgery
• Gallbladder surgery
• Appendectomy
• Colon surgery
• Laparoscopic procedures
• Splenic surgery

Preferred Experience:

• Pediatric surgery
• Thyroid surgery
• Pulmonary procedures
• Vascular procedures

Not Required:

• Amputations
• Cesarean sections
• Cyst procedures
• Respirator care

Support & Technology

• Anesthesia coverage provided by dedicated CRNA group
• No supervision of Advanced Practice Providers required
• Collaborative hospital support staff

Requirements

• Board Certified General Surgeon - Highly Preferred
• Board Eligible within 3 years of U.S. residency training - Required
• Active North Dakota license - Highly Preferred
• Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) accepted
• ATLS certification - Required
• PALS certification - Required
• DEA registration - Required
• Must be able to cover the urgent July assignment - Preferred
