Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Criminal Defense Attorney role based in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. The attorney will handle a caseload of criminal matters from intake through resolution, including client consultations, arraignments, motion practice, plea negotiations, and trials. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting motions and memoranda, preparing discovery requests and responses, and formulating defense strategies. The role involves frequent courtroom appearances, direct client communication, coordination with investigators and experts, and collaboration with other attorneys in the firm. The attorney will also maintain accurate case files, manage deadlines, and contribute to a professional and ethical office culture focused on high-quality defense representation.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Law, with demonstrated experience or training in Criminal Law.
  • Practical skills and experience in Criminal Defense Law and Criminal Defense practice, including case management and courtroom advocacy.
  • Proven ability to conduct thorough legal Research to support motions, trial preparation, and strategic decision-making.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Missouri and/or Kansas (or eligibility to obtain promptly).
  • Prior experience in criminal defense, public defense, prosecution, or trial-focused litigation is highly preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, including motion drafting, negotiation, and effective courtroom presentation.
  • Strong client-relations skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly and maintain professionalism under pressure.
  • Ability to manage a demanding caseload, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
