Associate Attorney (Entry-Level) - Immigration

Position Overview

The Law Office of Theodore A. Maloney, PLLC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented entry-level Associate Attorney to join our growing legal team. This position is ideal for a newly licensed attorney or recent graduate awaiting bar results who is interested in developing a career in immigration law, with opportunities for exposure to criminal defense, family law, and personal injury matters.

This role offers hands-on training, direct client interaction, and courtroom experience in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment serving a predominantly Spanish-speaking client base. We are currently looking for someone to support our current attorneys with existing case load so it will be an excellent opportunity to get experience for a new attorney.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and filing of immigration applications and petitions, including but not limited to:
    • Family-based petitions
    • Adjustment of status
    • Removal defense filings
    • Work permits and related applications
  • Draft motions, briefs, and legal memoranda for immigration court and USCIS matters
  • Communicate with clients to gather documents and explain case processes
  • Appear at immigration court hearings (EOIR) and USCIS interviews (as permitted based on experience)
  • Support attorneys in criminal, family, and personal injury cases as needed
  • Maintain accurate case files and update case management systems (Clio experience is a plus)
  • Conduct legal research and stay current on changes in immigration law

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Licensed in North Carolina or awaiting bar results (required)
  • Strong interest in immigration law and public-facing legal work
  • Excellent writing, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Spanish fluency or proficiency a plus.
