Overview
A a growing and highly regarded elder law and estate planning firm, is seeking an experienced, organized, and proactive professional to join our team in a Senior Paralegal / Senior Legal Assistant capacity.

This role is designed for a seasoned candidate who can operate in a fast-paced environment, take ownership of responsibilities, and play a key role in both case management and firm operations. Depending on experience and skillset, the successful candidate will function in either a Senior Paralegal position (legal drafting and case management focused) or a Senior Legal Assistant position (operations, client management, and workflow focused).

You will work directly with the managing attorney and become an integral part of the firm's continued growth.

Senior Paralegal Position (Legal / Case Management Focus)

For candidates with strong drafting skills and experience managing matters from intake through completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and prepare complex legal documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and health care proxies
  • Prepare probate and administration petitions, accountings, and supporting filings
  • Assist with guardianship proceedings and court submissions
  • Support Medicaid applications, eligibility analysis, and document collection
  • Manage probate and estate administration matters from intake through final distribution
  • Communicate with clients, courts, and third parties
  • Track deadlines and ensure timely filings and compliance

Qualifications

  • 2-5+ years of experience in estate planning, probate, elder law, or related field
  • Strong familiarity with New York Surrogate's Court procedures preferred
  • Experience with Medicaid or guardianship matters strongly preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple matters independently

Senior Legal Assistant position (Operations / Client Management Focus)

For candidates who excel in organization, scheduling, and keeping a law firm running efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming calls and client inquiries
  • Manage attorney calendar, consultations, and follow-ups
  • Coordinate client intake and document collection
  • Prepare and format legal documents and correspondence for attorney review
  • Communicate with courts, financial institutions, and third parties
  • Maintain and update case management systems (e.g., LEAP)
  • Track deadlines, appointments, and ensure smooth workflow across matters
  • Provide day-to-day operational support to the attorney

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a legal assistant or in a law firm setting
  • Strong understanding of law firm operations and client management
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a deadline-driven environment
