Protection, Interconnection & MV Equipment Review Engineer

Position Summary

The Protection, Interconnection & MV Equipment Review Engineer will support technical review of interconnection requirements, medium-voltage equipment, protection-related documents, and utility interface requirements. This role will focus on transformers, switchgear, reclosers, relays, metering, grounding, protection coordination inputs, and major electrical equipment compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review utility interconnection requirements and identify impacts on project design.
  • Review medium-voltage equipment including transformers, switchgear, reclosers, relays, metering equipment, and protection interfaces.
  • Review protection-related information, coordination study inputs, arc flash documentation, and equipment ratings where provided.
  • Review transformer winding configuration, impedance, BIL, fusing, surge arresters, bushings, nameplates, and accessories.
  • Review switchgear and recloser technical submittals for compliance with project requirements.
  • Support vendor technical evaluations and clarification questions.
  • Identify technical deviations, missing information, and equipment suitability concerns.
  • Provide comments related to reliability, safety, utility compliance, and long-term operations.
  • Support comment closure with EPCs, vendors, and the client team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in protection, interconnection, medium-voltage equipment, substations, distribution, or renewable energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of transformers, reclosers, switchgear, relays, metering, grounding, and utility interconnection requirements.
  • Ability to review technical specifications, shop drawings, vendor proposals, and EPC submittals.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NESC, IEEE, utility standards, and protection design principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with solar PV interconnection reviews.
  • Experience reviewing protection coordination, arc flash, and short-circuit studies.
  • Experience with utility-facing technical reviews.
  • PE license is a plus.
