Experienced Tool and Die Maker - 2 years min 1St Shift
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture, assemble, and try-out new tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures to print and spec.
- Diagnose and repair tooling issues (breakage, wear, misalignment), including on-press/in-machine adjustments.
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions; verify critical dimensions.
- Operate manual and CNC equipment (mill, lathe, surface grinder, EDM) and perform precision hand-fitting and polishing.
- Perform die set-ups, tryouts, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement to extend tool life and improve uptime.
- Maintain documentation: setup sheets, change logs, preventive maintenance records.
- Collaborate with design/ME/QC on DFM feedback, tolerance stack-ups, and corrective actions.
- Follow safety protocols and 5S; keep a clean, organized toolroom.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years as a Tool & Die Maker
- Proficiency with surface grinding, milling, turning, and bench work; familiarity with wire/sinker EDM.
- Strong blueprint reading
- Experience with coatings, and fits/clearances for stamping or molding.
- Skilled with precision measurement tools (micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, indicators).
- Proven troubleshooting and root-cause problem-solving in a production environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Apprenticeship completion or Journeyman card.
- Experience with progressive dies, transfer dies, injection molds, and/or high-speed stamping.
- Knowledge of SPC, CMM inspection, and basic PLC/sensor integration for die protection.
Soft Skills
- Detail-oriented with ownership mentality and a focus on first-pass yield.
- Clear communicator who partners well with operators, maintenance, and engineering.
- Organized, able to prioritize multiple jobs and shift quickly to urgent issues.
Physical Requirements
- Stand, bend, and lift up to 35 lbs; fine motor skills for hand-fitting; work around machinery and oils/coolants with appropriate PPE.
