Job Summary

This position is responsible for installing and maintaining new and existing fiber.

Pay Range: Dependent upon directly related work experience.

Essential duties & responsibilities:

Prep, tray, and splice fiber optic cables ranging from 1 single fiber up to 432 count fiber to include ribbon and loose tube

Ribbonize loose tube fiber

Identify and access fibers in an existing splice enclosure

Perform mid-sheath and splice fibers in an active network

Respond to network outages and perform required repairs

Install termination panels in a central office on customer premise

Utilize optical testing equipment such as OTDR, Power Meter, Fiber Identifier, and Fiber Scope

Follow fiber splicing documentation

Provide as-builds as required

Maintain safe work environment by following policy and procedures, codes, behavior standards, and legal regulations

Interact in an honest, trustworthy, and dependable manner with customers and vendors

Perform other duties as required

Mandatory knowledge, skills, abilities and other qualifications

Ability to read splicing matrix and design drawings

Ability to utilize MS Excel, other software, applications, or equivalent to document and retrieve splice information

Ability to operate a bucket truck

Highly organized and detail oriented

Critical thinking skills

Ability to comprehend, process and apply both verbal and written skills appropriate to the job

Ability to detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate

Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers

Experience

Knowledge of operating and using fiber optic splice equipment

Knowledge of fiber optic theory which includes fiber loss connector types and the different types of fibers

Willing to provide hands on training, experience is a plus, but not necessary

Physical Requirements

Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat, and lift 50lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools, and boxes

Must be able to stand for long periods of time on various types of surfaces

May be required to work long and unpredictable hours and some weekends

Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather

Ability to climb and work at different elevations/ heights (for example, ladders, poles, bucket trucks) that may exceed 18 feet

Must have a clean driving record and maintain a current insurable driver's license

Position may require travel
