Position Overview
Our firm is seeking a diligent Prelitigation Paralegal to lead the critical process of medical record procurement and analysis. This role is a cornerstone of our pre-suit operations, specifically supporting litigation for the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP).You will be responsible for ensuring every case file contains a comprehensive, verified medical history necessary to establish legal causation and damages.
Key Responsibilities
- Provider Research & Procurement: Analyze client intake forms and attorney notes in Filevine to identify all relevant healthcare providers. You will generate and execute formal medical record and Vaccine Administration Record requests, ensuring all HIPAA and HITECH-compliant authorizations are properly managed.
- Supervision: Act as a resource for case managers and review all medical record files for follow-up and completeness.
- Specialized Agency Coordination: Facilitate the acquisition of specialized reports, such as Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) records from the FDA, following strict Certification of Identity (COI) protocols for minors and deceased individuals.
- Comprehensive Record Review: Perform rigorous quality control on incoming records to ensure completeness.
- Critical Data Synthesis: Review records for high-priority data points, including contemporaneous vaccination logs (lot numbers, injection sites), symptom onset dates, and potential alternative causes or pre-existing conditions.
- Database & File Management: Maintain accurate tracking in Filevine, uploading digital files to G Suite and ensuring all ordering statuses are updated contemporaneously.
- Client & Attorney Liaison: Collaborate with attorneys to determine if the file is complete. You will also conduct follow-up calls with clients to verify their treatment history is fully captured.
- Compliant Time Entry: Maintain detailed, descriptive billing entries for all tasks
Qualifications
- Legal Experience: Proven background in medical record retrieval and summary, ideally in personal injury or mass tort litigation.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Filevine, G Suite, and eFax.
- Medical Literacy: Ability to interpret complex medical documentation and identify
- Attention to Detail: High conscientiousness in follow-up and tracking deadlines.
- Supervision: Ability to work with and supervise others in the record retrieval process
