Contract Electrical Engineer (1099) - Utility & Power Infrastructure Projects

Schedule: As Needed / Project-Based
Helberg Power Supply is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to provide technical support for utility, infrastructure, transportation, and government projects on an as-needed basis. This flexible contractor position is ideal for experienced engineers, consultants, and retired industry professionals looking to leverage their expertise on meaningful power and infrastructure projects.
While the position is primarily remote, preference will be given to candidates located on the East Coast, particularly within the Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut), as occasional project meetings or site visits may be required.
Responsibilities
- Review project specifications and technical requirements
- Assist with equipment selection and technical evaluations
- Support proposal development and bid reviews
- Review submittals, drawings, and engineering documentation
- Provide technical guidance to project management and sales teams
- Participate in virtual and occasional in-person project meetings
- Conduct job site visits when required by project needs
- Assist with utility, transportation, and public infrastructure projects involving power distribution equipment
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Experience with power distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, substations, protection and control systems, or related electrical infrastructure
- Strong understanding of utility specifications, electrical standards, and engineering documentation
- Ability to work independently in a project-based consulting environment
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills
- Authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required
- Previous utility industry experience is highly desirable
- Experience working with or for utilities such as:
- New York Power Authority (NYPA)
- Con Edison
- PSEG
- Experience working for or with major power equipment manufacturers, including:
- GE
- Siemens
- ABB / Hitachi Energy
- Schneider Electric
- Experience supporting government, transportation, transit, or public-sector infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with technical submittals, equipment specifications, procurement processes, and project execution

- Flexible, project-based 1099 contractor position
- Workload will vary based on project activity and requirements
- Primarily remote with occasional travel or site visits as needed
