Job Description
The Diesel Mechanic will diagnose, assess, and perform general repairs on a variety of equipment, all on site. This role includes routine preventive maintenance and repair work for trucks, trailers, yard hostlers, skid steers, heavy equipment, and related machinery with a commitment to support safe, efficient operations and reduce downtime.
The Diesel Mechanic will work independently to prioritize workflow in order to meet operational demands, maintain DOT-compliant maintenance records, and manage shop supply inventory. Communicate regularly with yard team members and management. Learn and use Fleetio to track repairs and manage PM.

Job Description
The Diesel Mechanic will diagnose, assess, and perform general repairs on a variety of equipment, all on site. This role includes routine preventive maintenance and repair work for trucks, trailers, yard hostlers, skid steers, heavy equipment, and related machinery with a commitment to support safe, efficient operations and reduce downtime.
The Diesel Mechanic will work independently to prioritize workflow in order to meet operational demands, maintain DOT-compliant maintenance records, and manage shop supply inventory. Communicate regularly with yard team members and management. Learn and use Fleetio to track repairs and manage PM.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical issues and complete repairs on trucks, trailers, yard hostlers, skid steers, and other heavy equipment.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to improve equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Use Fleetio to log repairs, schedule preventive maintenance, track inspections, maintain service history, and document parts usage.
- Maintain accurate digital maintenance records that support DOT compliance, operational planning, and asset visibility.
- Coordinate with yard and operations team members to prioritize repairs and keep equipment available for daily use.
- Monitor shop supplies and parts inventory needed to support maintenance work.
- Follow all company and DOT safety policies and procedures while working in the shop and yard.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic showing ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and complete general repairs for diesel engines, heavy equipment, and machinery.
- Preference given for mechanics capable with internal engine and transmission repairs. Will consider candidates with more than 5 years experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- CDL Class A License a plus.
- Welding and fabrication skills preferred.
- Work history demonstrating knowledge of safety practices and DOT documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; to meet deadlines and to work overtime when needed (work hours averaging 50-60 hours a week)
- Good interpersonal communication skills with ability to communicate with team members.
- Physically able to climb up and down transloading equipment and ladders safely.
- Ability to walk, bend, stoop, climb, and maintain balance throughout the day.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions, including snow, rain, and sub-freezing temperatures.
- Good hearing and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
Work Schedule & Environment
- First-shift; flexibility with schedule; overtime consistently available.
- All work is performed on site at the Company s Elwood facility in a new shop environment.
- Role coordinates needs with yard and operations personnel to support day-to-day equipment availability.
- Hourly pay range is $35 - $38 per hour based on experience and full benefits
