The CNC Lathe Setup/Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC lathes to manufacture high-precision aerospace components. This role requires strict adherence to engineering specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements, ensuring all parts meet aerospace tolerances and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up CNC lathe machines, including tooling, fixtures, offsets, and program verification
- Operate CNC lathes to produce tight-tolerance aerospace components
- Read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and process sheets
- Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments
- Ensure parts meet all customer, engineering, and quality requirements
- Make offsets and minor program adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy
- Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot machining issues
- Document production and inspection results in accordance with quality systems
- Maintain clean and organized work area in compliance with 5S standards
- Follow all safety, AS9100, and company procedures
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 3+ years of CNC lathe setup/operation experience, preferably in aerospace or high-precision manufacturing
- Strong ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T
- Experience with Fanuc or similar CNC controls
- Familiarity with aerospace materials (e.g., titanium, Inconel, stainless steels, aluminum alloys)
- Understanding of speeds, feeds, tooling, and cutting conditions for difficult materials
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an AS9100 or ISO-certified environment
- Knowledge of first article inspection (FAI) processes
- Ability to edit G-code programs
- Experience with multi-axis or live tooling lathes
