Columbia SC VAMC Details:
EM locums contract Must be Boarded in Emergency Medicine (ABEM/ABOEM)
Fill day & night shifts; 10- 12 hr. shifts
Must commit to 2-4 shifts per month at a minimum to keep your credentials/PIV card current
- Annual volume 33,000
- Trauma Level 1B
- 11 bed ER- 8 fast track beds; 22 Beds total in ER
- Not responsible for the NP (signing off) as they re independent practitioners in the VA System. They cover Fast Track.
- Avg census at night is 18 per 12-hour shifts. Days ADC tends to be 22-25 pts
- Minimal to moderate acuity; do not take in trauma patients.
- No STEMI/CVA. No neurosurgery. No IR. No OB/GYN. Vascular is limited. No trauma
- ED physicians do not support CC in hospital. This is covered by the ICU staff.
- No ED Residents: they host 4th yr. medical students at times; however, it s ED Physicians choice to engage in teaching.
- MOD handles admissions.
- Fast Track is covered by the APP, and it closes at 1030p. All patients are then seen in the ED.
Advanced scheduling 2 3 months. PRN can be issued any day of the month, based on Med Dir needs/urgency an email and text will be sent to our MDs to schedule availability.
For medical malpractice we will need full disclosure upfront. Any payout larger than $500K or two combined greater than $1M may require a separate approval of the VAMC Board.
Pay is $240/hr. all-inclusive (MD covers all Housing/Tran if needed & not local to the facility built in $20/hr to have MD cover H/T). Fed Govt Holiday pay is $300/hr. all-inclusive.
- Any state medical license
- Active DEA/unencumbered
- ACLS/BLS from American Heart Assoc ONLY
- No current restrictions or probation on ANY license per Fed Govt policy for VAMC contracts
- Credentialing tends to take 8-12 weeks with the VAMC driven by physician to complete/submit all required documents
