The Steel Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and fabrication projects. This position reviews project plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and erection costs. The estimator works closely with project managers, detailers, fabrication teams, vendors, and customers to ensure successful project bidding and execution.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, stairs, railings, and specialty steel components.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates including:
- Material costs
- Fabrication labor
- Erection labor
- Equipment and crane costs
- Freight and logistics
- Subcontractor pricing
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
- Develop bid proposals and submit estimates within required deadlines.
- Identify project risks, exclusions, and value-engineering opportunities.
