Neurologist (Locum Tenens) Petoskey, MI

Regional Referral Center Opportunity in Northern Michigan

Are you a Board-Certified Neurologist looking for a consistent locum tenens engagement in a beautiful lakeside community? McLaren Northern Michigan is seeking a dedicated physician to provide inpatient and outpatient coverage starting in May 2026. Join a 202-bed regional referral center recognized as a certified Primary Stroke Center, serving 22 counties across the region.

The Opportunity

This role offers a blend of onsite hospital coverage and outpatient clinic work, supported by the Cerner EMR system.

  • Clinical Scope: Provide comprehensive neurology services, including radiologic exam interpretation, lumbar punctures, brain death examinations, and evoked potentials.

  • Clinic & Hospital Work: Onsite hours are 8:00 AM 4:30 PM. Outpatient clinic appointments are typically scheduled between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM on Mon, Tue, Thu, and Fri. When not in the clinic, you will provide onsite hospital coverage and EEG reads (inpatient and outpatient).

  • Patient Volume: Manage an average of 6 8 patients per day.

  • Call Structure:

    • Weekdays: 8:00 AM 4:30 PM onsite, followed by night call from 4:30 PM 8:00 AM.

    • Weekends: 24-hour weekend call (8:00 AM 8:00 AM).

  • Schedule: Extensive availability needed from May 2026 through December 2026.

Compensation & Logistics
  • Rate Structure: Competitive hourly rates for onsite work and 24-hour call, with holiday premiums and call-back pay.

  • Orientation: Paid at 50% of the hourly rate.

  • Travel: This position is for local providers (no flights).

  • Expenses: Lodging and travel expenses are covered within McLaren s specific guidelines (tax-exempt lodging).

  • Documentation: Reverse invoicing is used via the DocTime system no paper timesheets required.

Candidate Requirements

To provide high-level care at this Primary Stroke Center, candidates must meet the following:

  • Board Certification: Must be Board Certified in Neurology (BE not accepted).

  • Licensure: Active Michigan State Medical License and DEA are required at the time of name clear.

  • Experience: Clean malpractice history and a current Self-Query NPDB (within 30 days) are required.

  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS required. NIH Stroke Scale/tPA competency is strongly preferred.

  • Health Clearances: Must provide complete immunization records (Hep B, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, Flu, COVID, and TB within 12 months).

  • CV Standards: CV must include home address, personal contact information, and DOB.
