OB/GYN Hospitalist (Locum Tenens) Des Moines, IA Urgent Weekday Coverage Needed for Premier Iowa Maternity Center
Are you looking for a high-impact locum tenens opportunity in a fast-paced hospital environment? We are seeking dedicated OB/GYN Hospitalists to provide 24-hour shift coverage at a major medical center in Des Moines. This role is ideal for physicians who enjoy inpatient care and want to support a vital maternity transport team serving the entire state.
The Opportunity Join a connected healthcare system focused on community wellness. This position is strictly inpatient, focusing on obstetric emergencies and labor management.
Clinical Scope: Manage OBED patients, perform emergent vaginal deliveries and C-sections, and care for patients without a primary OB/GYN.
Support & Environment: Work in an 8-bed OBED with an annual volume of 1,400 visits. MFM is available on-call.
Focus: No GYN responsibilities. While there are residents on-site, the hospitalist is not responsible for their supervision.
Shift Structure: 24-hour in-house shifts (7:00 AM 7:00 AM). Please note: Physicians cannot work more than two consecutive 24-hour shifts.
EMR: Epic.

Compensation & Travel Travel Reimbursement: Comprehensive coverage including airfare (up to $750 cap), lodging (1.5x GSA rate), and rental car ($55/day cap). Mileage is reimbursed at the IRS standard rate.
Hourly Rates: Competitive rates provided upon inquiry (includes malpractice coverage).
Holiday Pay: Premium rates apply for holiday coverage.
Candidate Requirements To meet the urgent needs of this facility, candidates must satisfy the following:
Board Certification: Must be Board Certified or truly Board Eligible in OB/GYN.
Licensure: Active Iowa State Medical License is strongly preferred; IMLC with a Letter of Qualification (LOQ) is accepted.
Availability: Please specify which of the following dates you can cover: May 29, June 4, Sept 20, Sept 22, Sept 23, Nov 25, Nov 28, Dec 21.
Background: Must have a clean professional liability history (no more than 2 claims in 5 years; no settlements >$250k in 5 years).
Residency: Candidates cannot be local to the Des Moines area.
Documentation: A Self-Query NPDB (pulled within the last 30 days) is required at the time of submission.
