Dual Hospital Coverage 2 Weeks On / 2 Weeks Off Outpatient + Inpatient Mix
A healthcare system in Iowa is seeking a Hematology & Oncology physician (locum tenens) to provide coverage across two affiliated medical centers. This is a high-demand opportunity with a structured block schedule, strong patient volume, and a predominantly outpatient-focused practice with limited inpatient responsibilities.
Position Highlights:
- Schedule Model: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off (flexible block coverage)
- Coverage across two hospital-based oncology programs
- Monday Friday clinic schedule: 8:00 AM 5:00 PM
- Approx. 95% outpatient / 5% inpatient
- No procedure/OR requirements
- EPIC EMR
Coverage Blocks Needed:
- Sept 14 Oct 2 (3 weeks)
- Oct 19 Oct 30 (2 weeks)
- Nov 16 Nov 27 (2 weeks, excluding Thanksgiving)
Provider must be available to cover 4 days per week within these blocks (typically Monday Thursday or Monday Friday).
Clinical Environment:
- Daily clinic volume: patients/day
- Inpatient census: 5 15 patients depending on site
- Mixed payer population (Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial)
- Strong ancillary support including RN/CMA staffing
- Imaging, lab, and pharmacy services onsite
Scope of Practice:
- Medical hematology/oncology management
- New patient evaluations and treatment planning
- Ongoing chemotherapy and therapy management
- Care plan adjustments and longitudinal oncology follow-up
- Palliative and end-of-life care coordination
- Referral coordination for surgical and radiation oncology (handled by established teams)
Compensation:
Competitive locum rates available, including:
- Hourly rate up to $740/hr
- Call back up to $1,050/hr
- Night call and 24-hour call premiums available
- Holiday premiums available
- Conversion fee applicable for permanent placement pathways
(Malpractice must be included in submitted rates.)
Travel Support:
- Airfare capped
- Lodging reimbursement per GSA-based limits
- Rental car allowance available
- Mileage reimbursement per IRS standard rate
Requirements:
- Fellowship trained in Hematology & Oncology (required)
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hematology & Oncology (preferred)
- Must be willing to cover both hospital sites
- Active Iowa license or IMLC (LOQ required)
- Must be experienced in Hem/Onc practice
- Clean malpractice and background history required
- Current NPDB self-query within 30 days
- Must provide availability at submission
