Job description

TinkBird Healthcare Staffing is seeking an experienced, Board-Certified physician to serve as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for a well-established Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Charlotte, North Carolina. This executive leadership position offers the opportunity to shape clinical strategy while maintaining an active patient care practice, with approximately 25% administrative leadership and 75% direct patient care.

Leadership Responsibilities
Provide executive oversight of all medical services and integrated clinical care
Serve as the clinical leader for the organization's multidisciplinary healthcare team
Supervise and mentor physicians and advanced practice providers
Conduct annual provider performance evaluations, peer reviews, and ongoing performance improvement initiatives
Develop provider orientation, onboarding, mentorship, and continuing medical education programs
Assist with physician recruitment, retention, and workforce planning
Establish provider productivity expectations and implement performance improvement plans when necessary
Lead quality improvement (QI), quality assurance (QA), patient safety, and clinical outcomes initiatives
Develop, implement, and maintain clinical policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of care
Ensure compliance with HRSA, NCQA, Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH), FTCA, state, federal, and other regulatory requirements
Lead clinical quality reporting and monitor organizational performance measures
Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning, organizational growth, and clinical operations
Assist with grant development, reporting, and program implementation as needed
Oversee provider credentialing, privileging, peer review, and clinical competency programs
Promote collaboration across medical, behavioral health, pharmacy, and ancillary services
Oversee implementation and optimization of Electronic Health Record (EHR) workflows and clinical documentation standards
Present clinical quality reports and strategic updates to executive leadership and the Board of Directors
Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement
Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, healthcare organizations, and physician groups
Supervise Medical Director, Behavioral Health Director, and Pharmacist

Clinical Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive primary care services while maintaining an active clinical practice
Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions across a diverse patient population
Deliver preventive care, chronic disease management, and evidence-based treatment plans
Coordinate patient care with specialists and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
Provide consultation and clinical guidance to physicians and advanced practice providers
Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Ensure high standards of patient safety, quality, and patient-centered care
Participate in organizational quality initiatives and clinical performance improvement efforts
Support culturally competent care for diverse and underserved patient populations

Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Board Certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or another appropriate Primary Care specialty
Active, unrestricted North Carolina medical license or eligibility for licensure
Minimum of five (5) years of physician experience in a community-based or ambulatory care setting
Minimum of three (3) years of physician leadership or medical director experience preferred
FQHC, Community Health Center, or underserved population experience strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience with provider supervision, quality improvement, peer review, and clinical operations
Strong knowledge of HRSA regulations, PCMH standards, quality reporting, and regulatory compliance
Excellent leadership, communication, mentoring, and relationship-building skills
Proficiency with Athena EMR and Microsoft Office applications is preferred.
