Job Description: Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Attorney Location: Hartford County, Connecticut (Fully Remote) Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time Opportunity: The ideal candidate will bring substantial experience advising employers on employee benefit programs, executive compensation arrangements, and regulatory compliance matters. Prior experience with single-employer plans is required. Key ResponsibilitiesAdvise clients on the design, implementation, amendment, and ongoing administration of retirement, welfare, and executive compensation programs.Draft, review, and update plan documents for qualified and nonqualified benefit arrangements, including retirement and deferred compensation plans.Provide guidance to employers, plan fiduciaries, administrators, and service providers regarding fiduciary obligations, governance standards, and operational compliance.Analyze and interpret federal laws and regulations impacting employee benefit programs and recommend practical solutions for clients.Assist clients with benefits-related issues arising from corporate transactions, restructurings, mergers, and acquisitions.Support compliance initiatives involving retirement, health, and welfare benefit plans. Preferred Background Candidates should possess experience in one or more of the following areas:Defined contribution and defined benefit retirement plansEmployee stock ownership arrangements (ESOPs)Health and welfare benefit plansCafeteria and flexible benefit programsExecutive compensation and deferred compensation plansIRC Section 409A compliance and related executive compensation matters401(k), 403(b), and other qualified retirement plan structuresGovernmental or public-sector benefit plansERISA fiduciary and governance matters QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law schoolActive license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdictionConnecticut bar admission is advantageous but not requiredDemonstrated experience with executive compensation matters and single-employer benefit plansExperience drafting, revising, or maintaining qualified and nonqualified retirement plan documents, including 401(k), 403(b), and deferred compensation arrangements Relevant Regulatory Knowledge Strong familiarity with employee benefits laws and regulations, including:ERISAInternal Revenue Code provisions applicable to benefit plansAffordable Care Act (ACA)COBRAHIPAARelated federal regulatory guidance and compliance requirements
