Position Overview Seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) for a Cardiothoracic Surgery weekend call coverage role. This high-acuity position supports urgent cardiac surgical cases, ICU transitions, and post-operative care within a busy hospital environment.
This role is ideal for a PA comfortable working independently during 24-hour weekend call blocks with strong surgical exposure and high-impact clinical responsibilities.
Schedule - Weekend Coverage: Friday 5:00 PM Monday 7:00 AM
- Call Type: 24-hour in-house/remote call coverage
- Frequency: 3 weekends per month
- Average Workload: 4 hours/day callback including rounding
- Shift Structure: Weekend-based intensive coverage
Clinical Responsibilities - Provide cardiothoracic surgical support for adult patients (18+)
- Assist with urgent surgical cases originating from cath lab or ICU
- Perform vein harvesting and surgical first-assist duties
- Support ICU-to-discharge patient transitions
- Conduct post-op rounding and inpatient management
- Collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons and APP team

- Surgeon Backup: Available after consult
Requirements - Minimum 3 years cardiothoracic or surgical experience required
- Active Pennsylvania PA license (required)
- DEA required
- Acute care certification not required
- Strong comfort with high-acuity inpatient surgical environments
