Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Radio Engineer to support the development, programming, and maintenance of mission-critical public safety radio systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with P25 radio programming, two-way radio communications, encryption management, and radio asset databases. This role requires a self-motivated professional capable of working independently while ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of radio programming templates and associated records.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, modify, and maintain radio programming templates for public safety communication systems.
- Identify radio programming requirements and coordinate with stakeholders to validate requested changes.
- Configure and program P25 radios, including encryption keys and talkgroups.
- Create, test, validate, and maintain radio programming templates before deployment.
- Manage Radio IDs, Talkgroups, and encryption assignments.
- Maintain accurate equipment and asset records using enterprise asset management systems and databases.
- Perform quality assurance on radio templates, programming files, and asset records.
- Support field technicians with radio programming and troubleshooting.
- Assist with evaluation and testing of new radio hardware and programming software.
- Investigate and resolve radio communication issues.
- Generate reports, maintain documentation, and respond to technical support requests.
- Perform administrative tasks including activity reporting, email communication, and record maintenance.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Radio or Communications Technician.
- Minimum 2 years of experience programming P25 radios (Motorola and/or Kenwood).
- Experience with radio template development, programming, and deployment.
- Knowledge of Radio IDs, Talkgroups, and radio system configuration.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and asset management/database applications.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform accurate data entry.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting public safety, emergency services, or military radio communications.
- Hands-on experience with two-way radio systems.
- Experience with P25 encryption, AES encryption, and Key Management Facility (KMF).
- Experience testing radio hardware and programming software.
- Familiarity with enterprise asset management systems.
Preferred Certifications
- FCC General Radiotelephone License.
- APCO Certification or equivalent industry certification.
