Job Description: Industry-leading property and casualty insurer is actively seeking a Licensed in CA Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney to join their claims legal department in Glendale, CA ( REMOTE with travel to hearings as needed). As a Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney, you will play a vital role in resolving claims as expeditiously and efficiently as possible. You will actively manage, investigate, and represent Workers' Compensation cases from inception through final conclusion, including dismissal, settlement, or trial. Collaborating directly with experienced adjusters and corporate clients, you will lead high-impact dispute resolution and defensive advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

Handle a caseload of Workers' Compensation cases actively managing each claim from initial notice of loss through final resolution.
Meet with clients and claims professionals to resolve cases in the most cost-effective and legally sound manner.
Answer and develop legal theories and affirmative defenses tailored to the specifics of each Workers' Compensation claim.
Engage in routine motion practice, discovery, and research to build robust defenses and advocate effectively for clients.
Handle routine depositions, hearings, conferences, and trials representing clients with professional decorum and exceptional courtroom skills.
Travel to regional boards and courts as required to advocate on behalf of clients and represent the firm's interests.

Skills & Experience
What You Need to Apply:

Experience: Direct experience handling complex Workers' Compensation matters
Licensure: Admitted to the California State Bar (and must maintain licensing in good standing to practice law in the assigned jurisdictions).
Compliance: Must hold a valid driver's license, maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and demonstrate a strict ability to maintain confidentiality.
Advocacy: Possess the distinct knowledge and ability to assist, defend, or plead for another in legal forums.
Communication: Knowledge and ability to deliberately and precisely exchange thoughts, legal theories, and opinions; must effectively translate complex legal language and ideas into layman's terms for clients and claims professionals.
Organization Skills: Demonstrated ability to categorize and prioritize work and information to maximize daily productivity and caseload progression.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Computer Literacy: Proficiency in using and toggling between multiple systems, MS Word, Lexis/Westlaw, and the daily proactive management of email and legal calendars.
Team Environment: Able to work seamlessly in a highly collaborative team environment with other attorneys, adjusters, legal support staff, and claims professionals.
Investigative Skills: Analytical ability to follow up step-by-step on inquiries or observations; to trace, track, search, or examine with high care and accuracy. Specifically, must take and preserve evidence that may be used in reaching sound legal conclusions.
Legal Research: Proven capability to locate relevant cases, treaties, codified laws, and statutes aimed at the discovery and interpretation of law, drawing accurate, reasonable conclusions and rendering clear legal opinions.
Courtroom Skills: Demonstrates appropriate courtroom behavior, attire, and decorum. Deeply familiar with the rules, regulations, and procedures that govern proceedings and conduct in courts of law and other legal forums. Highly dedicated to providing exceptional professional service to clients.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Ability to use a personal computer, standard office equipment, and handle multi-screen legal platforms.
Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle for legal travel.
Ability to travel as necessary to regional courts, client offices, and boards.
Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods (typically 75% to 90% of the workday).
Able to perform effectively and maintain composure in a dynamic, fast-paced professional legal environment.
